I think it's an excellent capture… especially like the expression on the young monk's face. I think Pete's comment is valid… but a matter of personal taste. I'd like it better with a bit of a vignette but, again, that's personal. Nice work.

Hi Arif,
My feelings go up and down with this picture. I do love the composition, even if it is a little bit artifical. I do love the motive at all, but I would love to see the young monk a little bit more highlighted apart from the background.
I took a look at the other pictures of your trip to Myanmar. Very nice. Especially the two…[Read more]

Hi Doug,
Thanks a lot for the work you did. I do think, keeping in mind the adapter, the lens you use, that the results are quite satisfying. At least they will work out for a good sized print.
When trying to judge those results I always caught myself looking for the “wow” which isn't something to expect by this combination. Or maybe it…[Read more]

Finally, a fair attempt with the 70mm Summarit used and processed in the same fashion as the others. This is a view of Sedona AZ, this time with Bell Rock at distant right.
And it's my custom to get a local haircut while on vacation. Have to document the occasion of course! This is not quite comparable as a test, since the TIFF had…[Read more]

I'm on a roll… 😎
Here's the Pentax-67 100mm f/4 Macro.
I ran into an acquaintance named Jim at the local Saturday farmers' market, looking a little startled while sitting on the curb eating some kind of delicacy. Lens was wide open at f/4.Then I walked around the corner into a custom car show and found this purple…[Read more]

Here are a couple samples of the Pentax-67 165mm f/4 LS… It doesn't seem to be as sharp as the others even with the shutter speed up and decent, but then at the Grand Canyon for shots at distance I was mostly just setting the focus a tad closer than infinity. On the first one I was surprised to spot people on the trail on the hill beyond the…[Read more]

Thanks, Pete… I'm pretty friendly-looking so I don't seem to stir up unpleasant responses from my willing (at least tacitly) “victims”. No, I overexerted hiking the long LV blocks and pulled a leg muscle and then, not watching where I was going, ran into a column at the Luxor. Dumb, but got to hurting later, and about back to normal now.

Most important of all, where are the CS lenses? I specifically want the CS versions of the 35mm and 120 which I use the most with strobes for outdoor portraits and commercial applications (the SF58 do NOT cut it for this type of…

The first lens tried was the 100mm f/4 Macro, and I forgot the advice I saw posted to set the Summarit wide open manually before mounting an adapted lens… I think this was in the context of using the 110mm f/2 Hasselblad lens. Anyway, the camera “thought” the Macro lens was f/6.8 and all the exposures were about 1.5 stops… -

Possibly a menu item which allows the user to input an autofocus calibration offset, not unlike that offered by Nikon/Canon and others. A friends Pentax 645D has this feature, and it has proven most beneficial.

Kurt, you seem to be doing pretty well without any flash on the S2. Tell us what you think you may need flash for. Being specific can help with sharing techniques.
Basically, the trick with using a speed-light is to use it as little as possible … or with as little help from the flash as possible.
To really effectively use flash in…[Read more]

Mark,
Converting to B&W is a subjective thing and it really depends on what your final statement will be. I have used most of the different techniques, LR, PS, and now Silver effects 2 and found that to be the closest B&W conversion tool. When I am doing a B&W conversion, I want it to look like a B&W print in both tonality and texture.…[Read more]

I wish I had a better idea of what kinds of things can be addressed with firmware (vs hardware). Anybody out there feel like sharing some knowledge. For example, could Leica implement a 1 push 100% zoom feature.

I was able to tap on the image (incomplete preview shown) and save to Photo App on my iPad and then I could see the whole image.
Very well done Pete. I doubt that a 24 mm could capture the whole scene considering the image y posted is a 4 image stitch from a 35 mm.
