In addition to announcing the M9-P today, Leica is also releasing a new wide angle M lens. In the same spirit as the 18mm Super-Elmar and 24mm Elmar, the Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH lens is designed for extremely high imaging performance in an very small and portable package.

Check out the MTF data on this lens. It is already nearing its peak performance wide-open and only gains slightly in the corners from stopping down. Truly astonishing when you realize that this is a 21mm. While the new lens shares the same maximum aperture as the classic Super Angulon, the Super-Elmar is an another universe quality-wise. Even compared to the superb 21mm Elmarit ASPH, you can see quite a different level of optical achievement.
