Josh Lehrer replied to the topic Leica Lens Prices and Availability in the forum M Lenses 13 years, 10 months ago
A large percentage of M9 purchasers have never owned a Leica before, which has created a huge demand for lenses. The used market for Leica lenses peaked around late May, and while it has not gone down very much since then, it is possible to find good deals on used lenses like the 35mm and 50mm Summicron if you are patient.
Any large Leica…[Read more]

At PPE, Leica was also demoing the Schneider 120 Macro TS Mamiya mount, adapted to the S2. With TS, manual focus and exposure is the norm so no real compromise there. Historically, Schneider has been the provider of TS lenses for Leica. The price I hear is in the $5,500 range or in Leica speak, a “Bargain”. I think… -
David Farkas replied to the topic Suggestions for feature additions in future S2 firmware updates in the forum S2 13 years, 10 months ago
Josh and I met with S2 product managers Stephan Shulz and Toni Felsner at Photo Plus and discussed many of the points raised on this thread regarding firmware. I will be posting a summary of that conversation when I get back to Florida. Right after NYC, we headed up to Rochester, NY to give S2 training to students and faculty at RIT. Please stay tuned….

Matt:
The viewfinder of the S2 is very large and bright without a doubt, but it is also very color-neutral. My experience with some of the viewfinders on other brands of MF cameras has been that they often exhibit a slight green or yellow cast.
I frequently use non-Leica lenses on the S2 with the standard focusing screen, and find that…[Read more]

After using the 30mm a bit I can say that the FOV is noticeably wider, but not a huge amount. Really, it is what you'd expect to be a single-focal length difference.
I will be posting shots next week when I return home.
Marc, yes, the 24mm is planned for release next year. It will be the equivalent of a 19mm lens in 35mm terms. Much,…[Read more]

How did you know about my 35 cron ASPH Anthracite? I don't remember posting that info online….
I think I'll hold onto it…along with my silver 90 Elmarit. Some vices are hard to give up (lenses too). 😀

I've made no secret that I use the S2 for almost all of my shooting these days. I actually feel guilty for not using my M gear as much as I used to. I've been an avid M shooter for years, but always had an affinity for SLR shooting as well. The R9/DMR was great and I was a huge advocate and enthusiastic user of the system. But, at the time, I used…[Read more]

David,
Nice shots. You really nailed the tractor shot. Unfortunately, I must have moved my focus or just not paid attention to focus at all as I was chopping down weeds with a Swiss Army Knife in front of our camera position.

Is there a list of serial numbers that qualify for the replacement?
Mine is a 2010 model with serial number 3800XXX that is now almost impossible to read in daylight (not sunlight, rather daylight!)
Cheers
Ed
All S2s with the original OLED component are eligible for free replacement.

To give everyone a better idea of what to look for…this image (taken outdoors in open shade) shows 3 different S2 bodies with 3 different OLED screens. The bottom S2's screen is from an early batch of S2 bodies, and exhibits heavy fading to the point where it can barely be seen. The middle S2's OLED screen was replaced by Leica before the newest…[Read more]

Mark, usually that happens when the photos are uploaded with a color space other than sRGB. When the browser converts it to sRGB for web viewing, it gets very dull.

Josh Lehrer replied to the topic OLED display going, going… in the forum S2 13 years, 11 months ago
The original OLED part, while ultimately defective, is a great idea. The ability to color-code information on the top display allows the user to quickly see what's going with the camera. For example, if a setting on the top OLED is blue while shooting tethered, that means that setting is being controlled from the computer. If something is green,…[Read more]

Unfortunately, all S2 service is performed in Germany. The good news is that turnaround for S2 service is pretty quick.
