can't wait to read your experiences
@Bobby Lee
You are right, the only point is that where I live it is rather difficult to compare two cameras without buying them. The stores that sell Leica and Nikon at the same time AND have also such items as an MM AND a D800E in stock and are willing to let you make a comparison are rare…[Read more]

I have a regular S2. I just added a screen protector on both screens: the monitor and the OLED.

I will most likely order a D800e for work, to replace my D1x. It's about 1/2 the price that the D1x was 10 years ago.
I will be in line for the M9 monochrome- and should be able to do a comparison.

Hi all,
I think it is very difficult to compare the image quality of the two cameras. One use CCD and the other CMOS, one use the Bayer Filters technique and not the other.
I understand photographers always want to find out which camera is better or the best but we all know there is not such thing as the best camera for all…[Read more]

Thanks guys.
Jack, you got me. π
BTW are you seeing only a part of the image and have to scroll to see the rest? I thought linking to a picture will extend the post width? But it does not here. Next time I will upload them again.

I love the dreamy look the shallow depth of field gives these images. Well done.

I don't know what to say. David had a Leica R 400mm converted to S mount and it is a wonderful combo in good light (he let me demo it so I speak from first hand knowledge). The key here is good light (meaning very bright light). I desperately want a long telephoto for use with my S2, but the reality is that its use is limited by the need for high…[Read more]

I used the Kenko NDX Variable ND filter on our New England Fall Foliage workshop with excellent results. Check out this thread for a few images.

Everyone who was on the New England Fall trip with David worked with ND and variable ND. They were so valuable, every one bought into David's system. I suspect he will be answering you too. But from a user perspective there was no vignetting issue with the 35 using screw in polarizing and ND filters. We also used David's “external” system for ND…[Read more]

Highly recommend this story ..it is both heart felt and well told . I met david burnett in Florida and he is a special person. I was an Army Intelligence group at the time of this photo and was due to be called up . We were next but the war ended before we were needed . I can remember the photograph from its first publishing and it was heavily…[Read more]

Glad to see you back to posting some work. As usual, quite nice. But don't forget, you can shoot the S2 in the rain, so rain in not an excuse not to be out shooting.

anyone tested the MM against the D800E in b&w?
I ordered a MM but got my D800E today and I'm very impressed about the high ISO – Qualities of the camera.
I suspekt the MM to be a bit better at 3200 ISO, but would really apreciate if someone made the test allready and can give me some advise.

Hi guys,
Just would like to post another M Monochrom image.
This one is ‘almost' perfect except some blow out highlight. It should be better if I make a under exposure image and adjust it with Camera Raw later!
Only wish I have a couple of days to try out the camera instead of 24 hours.

Hi Pete,
Well, I think the reason we have to follow the so called ‘expose to the right' is base on the histogram generate from the Joel preview image file. There are lots of round up figures when calculating this low resolution jpeg file and some camera manufacturers deliberately add on a safety margine to this calculation so the…[Read more]

Thanks Bobby.
When I tested the M9M the amazing thing was that even meetering into a pretty bright city sky, there was no clipping in the shadows and you could bring the shadows (house roofs/walls) easily back in pp with a nice film lookalike grain. And vica-versa metering at the houses there was no clipping in the bright sky and easily…[Read more]
