Joe had a pretty slick setup on the New England Fall Foilage trip where he used an eye-fi card to transmitt jpgs from the S2 to his iPad. It worked great and it was much easier using the iPad to check framing for landscape photography. He explains his setup here:

But, I was just told that it would NOT work with the S2 because the metal body
blocked the signal. While I am pleased to hear that the body is that “solid”, I am
disappointed that this is not a convenient way to connect the S2… -

Thanks David for the info. Sounds good. As soon as I find some time I will probably upgrade.

It seems to me that the new sliders (Highlights, Whites, Shadows, Blacks) in the Basic section of the Develop module allow for better control over the way the image is rendered. The attached Nikon D3S image (using LR4) is a shot that I had worked up in LR 3 but was not happy with. Couldn't lighten up the faces and the horses without the rest of…[Read more]

I had been using the LR4 beta since it came out and came to the same conclusion as you. Now that LR4 has been officially released, I have to pony up for the upgrade.

David and Josh… your presets need to be reworked for this iteration of LR. The old ones give bizarre results.
substantial improvement in which regard?

Agreed about the S-league…when I saw that it was only for commercial photography I lost interest. We are bombarded with these sorts of images on a daily basis trying to sell us stuff, who wants to pay to see more advertising just because it was taken with a certain camera? It's just like Victor magazine…invariably there is some waifish looking…[Read more]

David, didn't you post the earlier thread on file corruption? Evidently you have experienced the same thing exactly. You were obviously shooting flash too, so it appears to be a systemic problem, not just with my unit. And given that the black frames are actually underexposed captures, it would seem the problem lies with the shutter/flash sync.

This is the same problem I referred to in a new thread called Shooting Blanks. Apparently it is symptomatic of the camera, not just mine. I used flash when it occurred and I was certain the flash fired on those blank shots. On a whim, I hit Auto Tone on those blanks in Lightroom and to my surprise there was indeed an image recorded, albeit way…[Read more]

I used the Kenko NDX Variable ND filter on our New England Fall Foliage workshop with excellent results. Check out this thread for a few images.

I agree Kurt.
Specially the S-league -even though there are great images-they are all about the same theme (fashion) and thats why I find it pretty boaring and monotone after some time. -

I fully agree with the points you made. The Leica User Forum, for example, is practically worthless for us amateur – S2-users.

Hi Georh,
interesting- while you are going from carrying 3 ro carrying 4 lenses, I now often just bring 2 lenses with the S2 in a smaller backback. It is harder to decided which lenses to carry but in the end if seems to often work pretty good with just 2 lenses.
Let me know what you found!

I use the Singh-Ray variable ND filters all the time. They make a thin version in additional to their regular version and neither causes vignetting on the 35mm.

Marc,
Everyone who was on the New England Fall trip with David worked with ND and variable ND. They were so valuable, every one bought into David's system. I suspect he will be answering you too. But from a user perspective there was no vignetting issue with the 35 using screw in polarizing and ND filters. We also used David's “external” system…[Read more] - Load More
