I like this accessory so much I wrote a review:
When I was 40 I developed cataracts. During the time that the cataracts developed, I gave up photography. After the surgeries, and all the various treatments were complete, my vision started to settle down, and I started to shoot again. At this point I felt my vision was pretty good, and…[Read more]

All–A belated thank you for the helpful advice I received. Not everything went as planned but I got many good shots and the couple was very happy with the results. In particular, I go a group shot of the 50+ guests with the sun coming from front right (so not ideal). It looked ok on the screen, but was quite spectacular when printed 60×25 cm.…[Read more]

Yes, the M9 is very versatile, and has its place even in the presence of the S2. I've also been using my M8, especially in high-IR environments.
I took only the M9 on a recent vacation trip… with less bulk, very easy to carry and pack. I had a UV/IR Cut filter on its 35 Summilux ASPH to suppress even more IR, and also to slightly cool the…[Read more]

B&H Joe,

You'll need a ARCA type quick release plate in the camera … or the dual lug ARCA version available on the Camadapter site.

Marc,
That's a very smart set-up. I've tried to locate the grip you have on the SF58, but no luck. Where did you get it?
Thanks,
Joe

Jack,
I really like the first shot. I also like the more symmetrical version on your site of the same structure as well. Not sure which I like best. You could do a triptych series of 3 different angles of the same subject. Might be and interesting twist.

There is another interesting battery issue, mostly concerning those who still uses their M8 batteries in M9 cameras.
According to the M9 product specialist at Leica USA with whom I spoke the other day, older batteries that are reaching their end-of-life point (which is approximately two years) may cause an undercurrent situation. It makes a…[Read more] -

Thanks for the details; I had run across these on Flickr. I am still wondering about what lens for half-length / full-length fashion…120mm or 70? Mostly from the standpoint of image quality or look. Maybe there is not so much of a difference, I don't know. Working distance I don't really care about.

David Farkas and Josh Leher brought along a Schneider 120mm tilt/shift lens on the S2 Fall Foliage trip. It was in Mamiya mount and attached to the S2 via adapter. I tried the lens a couple times. It is very well built, easy to use (once you learn how to use it), and it is a very good performer.
I am sure David or Josh can provide additional info.

Looks like you have started on an interesting and challenging project and i wish you the best of luck with it. Of the three shots you posted…I like the first two better than the last. The gilt ceiling shots on your link that you did not post are more pleasing to my eye. I think that's because the ceiling is inherently symmetrical where the…[Read more]

Different operating systems calculate Mb differently. Getting info on the firmware file shows it as 7927512 bytes. Traditionally, a Kb is 1024 bytes and a Mb is 1024 K, so dividing that number by 1024 and then 1024 again should reveal the file…[Read more]

Perhaps the elfs in Wetzlar will fight back by adding a phone to the next M camera.

Update of Update
I have succeeded in updating the firmware by reloading everything and removing the multifunction Battery Grip beforehand.
I do not know if this Grip had anything to do with it or not but all is OK and I look forwards to a Merry Xmas, as I do to all the Members of this Forum.
good luck in 2012 as well. -

Update
I now have both S2s back from Solms… each taking 8 days from collection to arrival at my excellent dealers Richard Caplan in St James's London.
both appear to function correctly but I have been left with a dread of changing the Batteries.. ha! ha!… only a joke… I hope ?
I was impressed with the priority service awarded to me and…[Read more] - Load More
