Hi Michael – I have a Pentax 67 and leaf shutter lens, and I guess the Leica may have the same sequence of actions. Cock the leaf shutter. Press camera shutter button. Mirror rises. Focal plane shutter first curtain opens. Leaf shutter clicks. Focal plane shutter second curtain closes. Mirror comes down. Lots of movement going on, unlikely the…[Read more]

    Hi Dave, thanks very much

My next question would be to ask if there are any possible advantages for using the leaf shutter vs. the focal plane shutter at slower shutter speeds? Would the leaf shutter be a better choice when working with longer available light exposures or is the focal plane shutter soft enough that it shouldn't cause any…[Read more]

In my opinion, there is only one reason to have both. It is impossible to get ones significant other to carry an S2. So when one tires of humping an S2, one switches to his M9. The SO will carry an M9… briefly.

I think it was an old Pontiac. Inside the car was a maniquin all dressed up. It took a bit before I realized he was not real.

I have the original Leica grip but dont use it any more.
Maybe my hands are different but I can hold the M9 pretty good without any additional things – specially since I need 2 hands anyways (for focusing). Different with the x1 where I now use the grip all the time since I can hold it one handed if I want.

All–A belated thank you for the helpful advice I received. Not everything went as planned but I got many good shots and the couple was very happy with the results. In particular, I go a group shot of the 50+ guests with the sun coming from front right (so not ideal). It looked ok on the screen, but was quite spectacular when printed 60×25 cm.…[Read more]

Yes, the M9 is very versatile, and has its place even in the presence of the S2. I've also been using my M8, especially in high-IR environments.

I took only the M9 on a recent vacation trip… with less bulk, very easy to carry and pack. I had a UV/IR Cut filter on its 35 Summilux ASPH to suppress even more IR, and also to slightly cool the…[Read more]

    B&H Joe,

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/605593-REG/Kirk_AG_1_AG_1_Action_Grip_for.html

You'll need a ARCA type quick release plate in the camera … or the dual lug ARCA version available on the Camadapter site.

That's a very smart set-up. I've tried to locate the grip you have on the SF58, but no luck. Where did you get it?

    Jack,

I really like the first shot. I also like the more symmetrical version on your site of the same structure as well. Not sure which I like best. You could do a triptych series of 3 different angles of the same subject. Might be and interesting twist.

There is another interesting battery issue, mostly concerning those who still uses their M8 batteries in M9 cameras.
