Stephen,
Also check out the Mamiya 80/1.9 lens via adapter. I don't know if it will be too short for your purposes, but it does have a very pleasing bokeh. Plus, the price is right … $300-$500.

Hello to all
I had the luck to get a used S2 with a 70 m and the 180 mm. Don't have it yet but hope to get it every day.
As I make a lot of portrait and mostly use 80-100 mm on 35 mm, and not able to buy the 120 actually, I just look around for something between.
This Pentax looks nice to me, but how does it compare to the Habla…[Read more]

Follow-up on eye relief:
I went to B&H. They didn't have any MF cameras I could look through (except for an H1 in the used department). I looked at all the 35mm floor models and found them all about the same. Most but not all of the viewfinder visible with glasses.
But I was told that
1) No camera has a better viewfinder than the…[Read more] -

The S2 will work in A or P mode with the 120 TS. When you stop the lens down, the camera will automatically set…

My first post here.
I'm a retired engineer — an extremely fortunate one, as I have an M9 with several lenses, an S2 with all four lenses plus a 30mm on order, and an Alpa SWA with IQ180 and Schneider and Rodenstock optics. In all, the S2 gets used for about 80% of my images! The other two rigs now each get used maybe 10%.
But I can't…[Read more]

Hi Al,
Thanks for the info. Does I understand you correct that shutter speed is controlled manually through the camera and aperture at the lens? I think this is the way the Schneider TS are working?
With the 30mm and a TS I'm only missing the 350 to reach completion. 😉
Cheers,

I appreciate the suggestions, gents! I've visited the manufacturer's websites and those of some suppliers too. There are a number of Ex Officio vests, but the search doesn't bring up a light/summer weight model, except at one vendor where it's listed as unavailable (though it looks pretty good).
At Columbia's website, the search feature (like…[Read more]

Doug,
I wear a Columbia Titanium series vest, normal everyday style, not made exclusively for photogs. I put some neoprene lens bags to line the bottom two pockets to fit my M lenses in. Plenty of pockets to keep most items handy and a large pocket in the back for the “emergency” plastic bag for the rain. Last trip I took did not involve…[Read more] -

Thanks David…looking forward to the report.
Can't recall if I mentioned an issue that I've run into with locking down my manual settings and losing that lock when the camera goes to sleep or is turned off.

I only read it because I had the same question when I started using the SF 58;-)
Manuals should only be read when they are prepared by people who have actually used the item in question. A very rare phenomenon IMHO.
Anyway, glad to be of help

Josh and I met with S2 product managers Stephan Shulz and Toni Felsner at Photo Plus and discussed many of the points raised on this thread regarding firmware. I will be posting a summary of that conversation when I get back to Florida. Right after NYC, we headed up to Rochester, NY to give S2 training to students and faculty at RIT. Please stay tuned….
