Today, Leica has informed us that the new Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH, announced on May 10, has been delayed due to the “extraordinary technical requirements” of this unique lens. Since its announcement, the APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH has been highly anticipated and when it does finally ship, sometime in 2013, it will deliver the finest optical quality that users have ever seen from a 50mm Leica M lens.
David was fortunate enough to be able to use a prototype of this lens in Berlin while testing out the Leica M Monochrom (which was announced at the same time). The lens' performance shines through when using the Monochrom, given the extremely high demands of that camera's unique sensor and lack of interpolation.
