Mark,
I agree with you that Leica has taken a great deal of time and effort in order to connect with it's customer base. I do not ever recall other brands letting their engineers and product managers interact with their customers. Mostly you see the sales force and marketing managers spinning the information. It takes a lot of guts and trust…[Read more] -

Photojazz replied to the topic Will Leica start making more silver chrome lenses again? in the forum M Lenses 14 years, 7 months ago
I hope not. The market is thin enough without them producing specialty lens materials. I say stick to stealth black, and make all you can. To me, the M9 P says, people like basic black, and to be able to blend in, not stand out in a crowd. It's the style of shooting many M9 fans do, less is more.

I'll add to what Josh wrote.
In the past when Leica would come out with a new camera body, they might sell an average of one lens with each body as the vast majority of purchasers were already existing owners of the M system. These owners already had some lenses, so many didn't need the standard focal lengths of 35 and 50.
With the M9,…[Read more]

Maybe, maybe not, but I mostly fear that they will not make “real chromed” lenses again, only silver anodized ones as the 28 cron.

A large percentage of M9 purchasers have never owned a Leica before, which has created a huge demand for lenses. The used market for Leica lenses peaked around late May, and while it has not gone down very much since then, it is possible to find good deals on used lenses like the 35mm and 50mm Summicron if you are patient.
Any large Leica…[Read more]

It is not difficult or strenuous. Well, other than the rough truck ride to the canyon. The Native Americans control the site and are excellent guides. When I was there the number of people going through was small enough so people didn't get in the photo.
Of course, you don't want to be in the canyon if it is raining, nor will they let you, as…[Read more] -

Welcome, dscott! I was fortunate to acquire “sufficient” Leica M lenses before the M9 came along and the pricing took off. I do think it's the popularity of the M9 that is driving the demand, coupled with Leica's limited production capability. Short supply and a healthy demand results in sky-high pricing. And now Leica has the S2 system in…[Read more]

Thanks Al for the info. I was also curious how David used it on his fall color shoot.

I will have a look, but I think that's probably to close to the 70 mm

Stephen,
Also check out the Mamiya 80/1.9 lens via adapter. I don't know if it will be too short for your purposes, but it does have a very pleasing bokeh. Plus, the price is right … $300-$500.

Hello to all
I had the luck to get a used S2 with a 70 m and the 180 mm. Don't have it yet but hope to get it every day.
As I make a lot of portrait and mostly use 80-100 mm on 35 mm, and not able to buy the 120 actually, I just look around for something between.
This Pentax looks nice to me, but how does it compare to the Habla…[Read more]

Follow-up on eye relief:
I went to B&H. They didn't have any MF cameras I could look through (except for an H1 in the used department). I looked at all the 35mm floor models and found them all about the same. Most but not all of the viewfinder visible with glasses.
But I was told that
1) No camera has a better viewfinder than the…[Read more] -

My first post here.
I'm a retired engineer — an extremely fortunate one, as I have an M9 with several lenses, an S2 with all four lenses plus a 30mm on order, and an Alpa SWA with IQ180 and Schneider and Rodenstock optics. In all, the S2 gets used for about 80% of my images! The other two rigs now each get used maybe 10%.
But I can't…[Read more]

At PPE, Leica was also demoing the Schneider 120 Macro TS Mamiya mount, adapted to the S2. With TS, manual focus and exposure is the norm so no real compromise there. Historically, Schneider has been the provider of TS lenses for Leica. The price I hear is in the $5,500 range or in Leica speak, a “Bargain”. I think… - Load More
