Originally slated to end at the end of this month, the Leica S3 trade-in promotion has been extended until January 31, 2021. To recap, here are the details of the promo:

Leica is offering additional credit for those looking to trade-in previous generations of S cameras for the Leica S3. For S2 and S (Typ 006) CCD-based S cameras, a credit of $2,000 will be applied towards purchase. For the previous generation S (Typ 007), Leica is offering a more generous $4,000.

Additionally, for non-Leica medium format digital cameras and backs with resolutions of 41 megapixels and higher, Leica is giving a $3,000 credit towards a new S3 purchase. And for Hasselblad trades, they're throwing in a free S-Adapter-H valued at $1,995 to sweeten the deal.

Pricing Breakdown

Here's how the promotion breaks down, first for Leica S then for non-Leica medium format digital:

Leica STrade-Up Credit
Leica S2$2,000 + Trade-in value
Leica S (Typ 006)$2,000 + Trade-in value
Leica S (Typ 007)$4,000 + Trade-in value
Non-Leica Medium FormatTrade-Up Credit
Digital backs and Cameras (> 41 MP)$3,000
Hasselblad digital backs and Cameras (> 41 MP) $3,000 + Free S-Adapter H

Note that the credit is in addition to standard trade-in valuation, which will be on a case-by-case basis. For those thinking of trading in multiple S bodies for a single S3, Leica will only be offering the additional credit on one camera per S3 purchase. Normal trade values will still apply though.
