Just a quick hand-held shot while I was up in New Hampshire in April scouting for the Fall Foliage trip.

Great to have you on board Red Dot Forum! Thrilled that we could find a combination of Leica gear that worked for you. I am looking forward to seeing some images from your M8/35 cron combo.
Enjoy!

Had a weekend free of wedding work, so we all took off on a 4 day road trip to N. Michigan for a bit of fun in the Traverse City area … including some tastings in the wine region, and a few fishing villages along the “Big sea shining water” for wonderful smoked fish and photo ops.
Our little Chi “Schnuffy” has a real fondness for Ice Cream, but only allowed on vacation … her pal Ginger with the pink nose took a liking to it too … blonds DO have more fun, LOL! The girl working on her computer seemed oblivious to the natural beauty around her … maybe she needs a few weeks in an urban environment to remind her : -) Except for the fisherman cleaning his nets, these aren't my kind of photos … but hey! I'm on vacation! BTW, the Bumble Bee was shot with the 180, not the 120 macro.
Very contrasty scenarios most of the time, but the S2 handled it well for the most part.
Everything was great, but I discovered my S35/2.5 isn't stopping down at all. It autofocuses okay, just no stopped down shooting. All my other lenses work fine so it isn't the camera. Grrrrr. Gotta send it in pronto.

Nick,
Thanks for posting this sample over here on Red Dot Forum. It is one of the best examples I've seen yet for detail and noise at 640 ISO.
I took a look at the metadata: 1/1000th at f/9.5. Easily hand-holdable shutter speed for the 120 with good depth of field as well. ISO 160 would have dropped you down to 1/250th, which should…[Read more]

Nick,
I quite agree. There were so many early postings in 2010 by S2 triers, rather than S2 owners who set up the expectation that only ISO 160 was going to be any good with the S2. But as Leica has worked with Adobe LR, the facts come out that shooting at ISO 640 is no hardship. Next they will complain that there still is no ISO…[Read more] -

Great to have you as part of Red Dot! I will agree that my S2 presets have some added shadow contrast, this reflects both my preference for a bit of extra contrast and the reduction of the “blacks” slider in Lightroom to 2, which will inherently flatten out the image. Of course I provide these presets as a starting point not as a…[Read more]

I have the new split prism screen in my S2 and love it. Not sure when it's going to be available but it should be real soon now…three weeks ago I was told it would be announced ‘in a few weeks'!
Recommended.

David Farkas suggested I look at this forum after I posted an article on Luminous Landscape about the S2 as a travel camera. I have a question…
The tone curve in your presets tends to kill the shadow detail in my high ISO images – what is there a reason for this change? I can see no benefit. My ISO640 images look better without…[Read more]

Thanks Jack.
Stuart, no flash. I just made certain that I didn't shoot into the sun for once. 😉 The S2 worked great on AF-C. It was a very bright day, so no problem with shutter speed. The only issue was how bright the sky was to shoot against. Working with S2 files in such a scenario is great because of the ability to pull the subject back in raw.

Jack, just sitting down on the job.

Nice shot Kurt! Looks like the AF works (or did you just use MF?)! Did you freeze it with flash, or was it just high shutter speed?

I saw your reach for it shot first and wondered where you were to shoot it. Perhaps this explains it as you were laying down on the job.

Mark Gowin replied to the topic Suggestions for feature additions in future S2 firmware updates in the forum S2 14 years, 10 months ago
Here is another idea for future firmware which should be simple to implement. Allow the rear thumb button (which I use to trigger autofocus) to be assigned as a one click 100% zoom button when in image review mode. Most of the time, when I zoom in on an image I want to go to 100% to check focus. A one button approach would be faster and easier.
