• I have just acquired a M4-P (chrome with M6 viewfinder) in mint condition.
The lens arrived today. A mint 50mm f2.8 Elmar.
Not used a rangefinder before and it is years since I used a film camera. (I currently have a Leica X1 plus a couple of Panasonics.)

    What film do you use?
Can anyone recommend a film lab. in the UK please?

    Thanks.

The doors to Photokina open in just one week. As always, anticipation is high for Leica's latest round of product announcements. With the huge success of the M9, will Leica deliver the goods with a new M camera? What about new lenses? Compact cameras? And,what does the future hold for the S-System?

My guess is that this is going to be a very important show for Leica. Their huge booth in Hall 2.1 apparently wasn't big enough this time around, so they moved to Hall 1 – the entire show hall! Yeah, Leica will have one of the largest exhibits at Photokina. They must have something big planned.

Well, yours truly will be heading to Germany again for full coverage of all things Leica, and I can't wait to see how my expectations and all the rumors will match with the new offerings.

I'll be tweeting (follow me here) with quick up-to-the-minute updates and posting in-depth articles with analysis and interviews here on Red Dot Forum. Be sure to check back often, and make sure to follow the Twitter feed for the latest news and info. It's also a great way to reach out to me and ask me questions. I'll do my best to get the answers if I don't already have them.

First up is the September 17 Das Wesentliche event (yes, the same name as the May 10 event in Berlin), where Leica is expected to make all their big announcements. Of course, I've got my invitation, and I will be sure to get a good seat with mobile devices at the ready.

Then, the following day, I'll be making a beeline for the Leica stand to get hands-on with all the goodies and have follow-up conversations with the product managers.

So, stay tuned right here for updates from Cologne!

  • I've had issues with the S2 tethered to my Mac Tower … LR simply wouldn't recognize the S2 was connected. Jumped through all kinds of hoops trying to fix it to no avail.

Finally solved it by creating a second account on the troubled computer and using that when shooting tethered with the S2. It should be noted that I did not have any of…[Read more]

  • Any additional pictures and updates on the M Monochrom deliveries?

I am very happy that this camera is such a hit. Spent some years on the various forums as a proponent of Monochrome Digital cameras. My original DSLR is monochrome, 20 years old now. There was never any doubt in my mind about the advantages of a monochrome sensor for black and…[Read more]

  • Hi Armin,

I was surprised when I read this the first time, but kept it in mind for the next shooting, which I had a few days ago. I used the S2 tethered with LR4 and did not experienced the problems you described.

I do not have the comparison between a Hasselblad and their Phocus Software but the experience I had with capturing with a…[Read more]

$5300 net to me, that's over a grand off the new price.

    Hello Brian,
Can you shim Jupiter-9? If so, what would be the cost?
I have one that cannot focus correctly with my leica m9.
I only need it to focus close distance. Both if possible.
    Thanks

  • Very impressive in many aspects.

  • Without color information from the sensor, emulating the effects of color filters in post processing cannot be done with sliders. You could selectively “Grab” areas of the image and selectively lighten/darken them, like dodging and burning.

  • I don't think color filters can be accurately replicated in post-production. The Monochrom sensor only captures luminance values. The DNG files produced will not hold any color channel information, making it very difficult (dare I say impossible) to apply color filters in post-production.

The Monochrom does come with Silver Efex Pro 2 with…[Read more]

  • Thanks for continuing to post Michael. We all appreciate your photographic contribution to Red Dot Forum.

No need to apologize for the spots, scratches, etc. I think those “imperfections” help portray the reality of the moment. If they were completely sharp and clear, what would that say about the event? The dust & scratches, and especially…[Read more]

  • Nice set. Personally, I think the S2 really shines in desert light.

  • Very nice, Pete!

  • Correction – the Pano is a FIVE image stitch. 65 images? The sun would have set twice by the time I was finished.

No idea on price, but I'm expecting Leica to show the lens along with the 24mm f/3.5 at Photokina in two weeks. We'll have a all the details then…. and yes, I will be attending and reporting.

  • Thank you for the info. Any word on price and general availability yet?

  • Hey. Thanks. 🙂

  • The drama is simple. A mistake will cost you several thousand dollars. The S2 sensor is designed with the cover glass glued onto the sensor. You can't just replace the cover glass, you have to replace the entire sensor if the cover glass gets scratched. Also, please note that is pretty easy to scratch the coating on the cover glass.

    I had…[Read more]

    Stunning, stunning, stunning shots.

  • PebblePlace;3031 wrote: Just curious, has Leica ever posted anything about the size and weight for the 30-90 zoom? I'm hoping the slower aperture translates into a lighter lens in the 2 pound range. Anyways, just curious if anybody has seen any details about the lens. Thanks.
