Hey Al,
You did a good job of procrastinating on getting an iPad till now. However, now that the “new iPad” is out and you can see the benefit with the EyeFi card, resistance is futile.

This really intrigued me, enough to take the plunge and purchase the Eye-Fi Pro card and give it a try myself. I put it through the test with my S2, M9, X1 and Canon S95 all tethered to my iPhone4. In all cases it succeeded in transferring JPEG files to the iPhone4. I tried a long range test just to see what would happen to the download and…[Read more]

Just to follow up. I reinstalled twice and its the same problem.
Then I put in the old focusing screen and it turns out that it shows the same behaviour (just more difficult to realized because there is no split line)What I allways thought would be an AF more precise than my eyes seems to be a screen holder which is not in its totally…[Read more]

Tom,
I ordered the Kata from Amazon as the prices of dealers in Belgium were prohibitive. It arrived yesterday. The S2 w/ 4 lenses fits in easily (one could even add a M9 and a couple of lenses). I particularly like the tripod holder, which seems to hold well the RRS tripod. Even if i will not allways take the whole stuff, the backpack will…[Read more] -

I'm glad for you that you are getting the problem sorted out with Leica. You would probably be best served by purchasing the premium service contract that extends your warranty out another year. Here in the US the premium warranty is much less expensive than the Platinum warranty.

Thinking maybe I should have waited a while before touting LR4. Recently tried to export 200+ S2 DNG's to relatively small jpegs and it takes forever. Much, much slower than LR3. Probably best to wait a while before making the changeover. I would have thought that after the extensive beta testing Adobe would have worked these kinds of bugs out…

Thank you everyone for your kind advice. I have taken the matter to Solm and they have responded and sent me 2 map files (dsp & nch) which I will install and do a further testing later today.
Rewi – I am only a causal shooter and therefore did not spend the extra money for the platinum service but I assume if it is from a reputable dealer,…[Read more]

You should talk to Andrea Frankl at Leica Solms, and probably forward all correspondance you have had with the dealer to her (after speaking with her, of course). Leica will take care of you. I deal mostly with them directly, as I am in a country without an experience S line dealer. They are easy and helpful to deal with. Their reputation rides on…[Read more]

Norman, I would go to your next real local Leica Dealer and let him handle the stuff with Solms directly. Get rid of Konjinenberg, forget about them. Solms will fix your problem and you start establishing a relationship with a real Leica Dealer where you will buy your next lens. So both parties will benefit. 😉

Is Remco Konijnenberg an authorized Leica dealer? If he is, there should be no problem. Did you get a warranty card?

I'm very sorry Norman to hear of your concerns regarding the overseas dealer, I hope that Leica will address your issues directly & concisely! do you have the Platinum service option?
I too am considering buying a Leica S2P (demo model) from a foreign dealer as this will save me $15,000 NZD :p
Can I assume that because I'm buying the…[Read more]

Joe had a pretty slick setup on the New England Fall Foilage trip where he used an eye-fi card to transmitt jpgs from the S2 to his iPad. It worked great and it was much easier using the iPad to check framing for landscape photography. He explains his setup here:

But, I was just told that it would NOT work with the S2 because the metal body
blocked the signal. While I am pleased to hear that the body is that “solid”, I am
disappointed that this is not a convenient way to connect the S2… -

It seems to me that the new sliders (Highlights, Whites, Shadows, Blacks) in the Basic section of the Develop module allow for better control over the way the image is rendered. The attached Nikon D3S image (using LR4) is a shot that I had worked up in LR 3 but was not happy with. Couldn't lighten up the faces and the horses without the rest of…[Read more]

I had been using the LR4 beta since it came out and came to the same conclusion as you. Now that LR4 has been officially released, I have to pony up for the upgrade.

David and Josh… your presets need to be reworked for this iteration of LR. The old ones give bizarre results.
substantial improvement in which regard?

Agreed about the S-league…when I saw that it was only for commercial photography I lost interest. We are bombarded with these sorts of images on a daily basis trying to sell us stuff, who wants to pay to see more advertising just because it was taken with a certain camera? It's just like Victor magazine…invariably there is some waifish looking…[Read more]
